Cleansing, Programming, and Charging Your New Helpers
Cleansing Your Gemstones

Cleansing your gemstone rids your gemstone of any vibration it has encountered or absorbed before it has come into your possession and after every use. This is crucial when working with gemstones. The last thing you want is to take on someone else's vibe, literally! The easiest way I like to do this is by running your gemstone under cold water if the gemstone is not water-soluble and gently dry your gemstones. Your gemstones can also be cleansed by smudging them using sage, palo santo, or your favorite incense. The premise behind smudging as a cleansing technique is that the smoke adheres to any negative energy, neutralizes it, and then dispels it into the atmosphere. It is your prerogative to use one or both techniques. Some gemstones like selenite are water-soluble and are understood to be self-cleansing and clearing, I cleanse selenite by smudging it anyway to pay respect to the vibrational energy clearing gift it provides.

Charging Your Gemstones
Charging your gemstones boosts its energy to perform the tasks that you require and desire. There are many ways to charge gemstones. My favorite is to place them in direct sunlight which bathes them in source energy. Some fade in sunlight such as amethyst, citrine, and rose quartz. In this case, allow them to absorb daylight indirect from the sun. Feel free to use the moon energy as well. Once you develop a bond with your gemstones you will intuitively know how they want to be charged. Cleansing and charging should be done after every use.
Programming Your Gemstones

Programming Your Gemstones
Programming your gemstones simply means dedicating them to the holder for the holder's personal purpose. Place the gemstone in your hands and aloud or silently say how and why you are dedicating them. Continue with your dedication until you feel that the programming is complete. Gemstones are very personal and should not be shared with others unless programmed to do so. Always bestow gratitude to all of your helpers in the mineral kingdom for assisting in any healing session.

Reiki and Gemstones in Healing

Using Gemstones During a Reiki Session
Although gemstones are not part of Reiki, they are complimentary tools in my healing repertoire. I use these magnificent gems of the mineral kingdom to assist in strengthening, healing, balancing, and maintaining equilibrium of chakras and aura through their vibrational resonance. Gemstones have been used for millennia in healing practices all over the world. Today, technological advances have allowed us to harness the evident power of gemstones using piezoelectricity (harnessing gemstone energy through compression creating a harmonic resonance, frequency, and vibration). Some devices that use piezoelectricity in our daily lives are wrist watches, clocks, digital circuits, ultrasound machines, and even surgical instruments. There are many uses for gemstones. Here is some information if you are interested in using them in the privacy of your own home for chakra clearing and balancing.
Gemstones, Chakras, and Placement on the Body

Designate time and prepare space needed to lay the gemstones on you. Make sure the room is comfortable and quiet. Focus your mind on the healing intention you would like the gemstones to assist in providing. Balanced breathing is key in balancing your body mind, body, spirit. Generally, specific colored gemstones correspond to specific chakras. As you educate yourself on other gemstones and their properties you will learn how to incorporate other gemstones in your chakra work.

Placement of crystals on the 7 main chakras of the physical body while laying down:
Place a black gemstone just above the feet for grounding and energy absorption.
Place a red gemstone between your legs at  the root chakra located at the base of the spine.
Place an orange gemstone on the sacral chakra about 2 to 3 inches below the navel.
Place a yellow gemstone between the sternum and the navel onto your solar plexus chakra.
Place a green gemstone at your heart chakra located in the center of your chest you can add a pink stone as well.
Place a blue gemstone on the throat chakra in the center of your neck.
Place a indigo or purple gemstone on your third eye chakra between your eyes and hairline.
Place a clear or violet gemstone at your crown chakra either at the natural hairline or directly above the head when laying down.
After about a 15 to 30 minutes, unless the gemstones energy gives you discomfort in any way, remove them from crown chakra to root chakra. Refer to my Gemstone Care blog post information to cleanse, charge, and program your gemstones before you begin any energetic work with gemstones.
